A community-owned wind farm is being built in Scotland, after a local fundraising campaign was successful, BBC reported. The wind farm is part of a €4 million renewables project in the island of North Uist, Scotland. The project has raised around €456,000, exceeding the €400,000 goal.

The construction is expected to be completed in July. Mustapha Hocine, chairwoman of the North Uist Development Company said that the project will contribute to the race against the depopulation and keep the youngsters on the island by creating opportunities to support future generations.

According to estimations, the project will generate around €120,000 revenue per year, which is a total of €2.66 million over the project’s 22-year lifespan. The profits of the projects will be directed back to the community.
