Power demand optimisation, efficiency certificates, hybrid pricing formulas, and digital tools that enable companies to manage their energy exposure in real time – this is what CEO Ángel Crespo sees as MET España’s key contributions to the market, helping to increase competitiveness across the Spanish energy sector.
The subsidiary has good reasons to celebrate its 10th anniversary. During the past decade, the company has been transformed from an emerging local player into a consolidated and well-respected competitor in the Iberian market. It has been ten years of regulatory learning, adaptation to unprecedented volatility, and the establishment of a robust commercial and industrial platform.
“We transitioned from managing only natural gas volumes to operating a complex, multi-product energy infrastructure, earning the trust of the Spanish industrial and SME sector,” Ángel Crespo says. MET España has recorded sustained growth in revenue and energy volumes managed, becoming one of the leading independent energy suppliers in Spain. Its customer base has evolved from a few large industrial consumers to a diversified portfolio of wholesale, corporate clients and SMEs across the country.
The strength of the Spanish subsidiary is deeply rooted in its strategy of risk and product diversification. It is no longer a single-product company focused solely on natural gas – the integrated offering of innovative products for the power business (demand optimization, market access, own dispatch centre) balances the revenue streams and reduces exposure to the cycles of any single commodity.
Belonging to MET Group provides a unique dual competitive advantage, the CEO of MET España believes. “The Group maintains an agile, entrepreneurial DNA rather than a rigid corporate structure. This grants us the local autonomy needed to make swift decisions and adapt quickly to the specificities of the Spanish market.”
In addition, being part of an independent pan-European gas, LNG, power, and renewables company, with operations in 24 countries “provides us not only with substantial financial muscle, but access to global sourcing infrastructure (including LNG capacity) and the exchange of best practices with European subsidiaries,” Ángel Crespo adds.

The CEO points to the development and consolidation of MET España’s wholesale power business as a key achievement, leveraging gas market expertise to build a highly efficient electricity trading and operations desk. “It has enabled us to secure long-term partnerships with power generators and consumers through tailor-made solutions, generating real value to our energy partners.”
In ten years’ time, Ángel sees MET Energía España as well established within the Spanish market, exporting this innovative approach to Portugal and acting as a leader in the electrification of the economy. Developing new energy solutions adapted to the evolving complexities and dynamics of the energy sector is essential to achieving these goals, while retaining the same commercial agility and customer-centric focus that enabled the company to successfully navigate its first decade.
