Claudio Macchioni: I think that the best is yet to come

February 1, 2024
“2022 was difficult, the credit risk was at an all-time high, but we adapted to the challenging environment and managed to find opportunities,” says Claudio Macchioni, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at MET Italia who recently received the MET Excellence Award for his outstanding performance in 2023.

What was your first thought when you heard your name announced?

To be honest, when MET Italia’s CEO Giuseppe Rebuzzini was called on stage, I started to think that it could be me. When I heard my name, I immediately started thinking about something to say, but I guess my surprise was clearly visible on my face.

What do you think is your greatest professional achievement?

2022 was difficult, the credit risk was at an all-time high, but we adapted to the challenging environment and managed to find opportunities. However, I am not an easy person to satisfy, I prefer thinking that the best is yet to come.

Where do you see MET Group – and yourself – in five years?

It has been a long journey in the past five years for MET Italia, starting from scratch in the retail market. I wish we could keep growing and I hope that the whole MET Group will play a relevant role throughout Europe also in the retail sector.

How do you ‘recharge batteries’ outside working hours?

I take a break from the fast-paced life of a CFO – sometimes going to a gourmet restaurant with my wife, or buying a plane ticket to somewhere far away. I am a wine lover, and I love spending the weekends walking around vineyards and cellars in search of something yet to be tried.
